Marden Edwards Limited has recently supplied a large pack format overwrapper to a Canadian company which manufactures re-closable freezer bags.

The multi pack format was demanded by the end user, a world famous American retailer. The presentation of the collated product was crucial because of the requirements of minimizing shelf space used but at the same time providing as large a retail display face as possible.

The cartons themselves were large and when collated together in a triple pack produced large bundles ideally suited to the specification of the LX300FF fully automatic overwrapper. The LX300FF is capable of wrapping with a piece of film over one metre in length and handling a pack up to 450mm wide, 450mm deep and 200mm high.

To achieve the required display face position the machine was supplied as in “in-line” version with the packs being automatically fed from the previous cartoning machine. The LX300FF ran at a speed of over 20 cycles per minute equating to an input speed of over 60 cartons per minute.

Overwrap was preferred to shrink wrap for this application because of the strength of pack that overwrap provides and the neat presentation that it offers. I addition, cost savings were achieved by using economic BOPP film and by not requiring a high energy consuming shrink tunnel.
